Homeopathy in Lymington and the New Forest area

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the remedies safe?

Yes, they are completely safe. Homeopathic remedies are derived from a wide variety of substances, and although some are taken from substances which in their complete, physical form would be toxic to the human body, they contain such miniscule amounts (or in higher potencies, only the 'energetic imprint') of the actual substance that they are completely non-toxic.

Are the remedies well tested?

Most of the remedies are around 200 years old, and they have been thoroughly tested and their effects very well documented during that time.

Are there any side effects from homeopathy?

There are no harmful side effects from homeopathic treatment - sometimes a condition may worsen slightly (but only temporarily) before it gets better, but if the correct remedy is given at the correct potency, then this shouldn't happen.

How long will the treatment last?

Just about every person who comes to see me asks this question, and as much as I would like to tell them, it is literally impossible to say, as everyone's body and mind has a different healing ability; some people have stronger 'constitutions' than others, so it may be quicker for them. Unfortunately, the miracle 'overnight cure' is very hard to come by in any kind of medicine. Homeopathy may take slightly longer than conventional medicine, as it is treating the 'illness' along with its root causes, rather than just suppressing the symptoms. If you think about it, the body went through a process to get sick, so in turn, it must go through a process in order to heal itself, and restore complete balance. Usually, the longer a condition has been present, the longer the body will take to heal itself, but of course this is not always the case.

How often will I need a consultation?

Usually once a month or once every six weeks, but if you are presenting with a more acute condition, it may need to be more frequently.

Is it safe to take homeopathic remedies along with medication from my GP?

Yes, they can work alongside eachother, but should be taken a few hours apart; certain homeopathic remedies can in fact be used to help remove some of the harmful side effects of conventional medicine, but it is important for me to know about any conventional medicine / creams that you might be using, as they might be contributing to your presenting symptoms.

Can I give homeopathic remedies to my children?

Absolutely. Seeing as the remedies are completely non-toxic, there is no problem whatsoever in children of any age (even from birth) being given homeopathic treatment. For very small babies, it is better to dissolve the remedy in a tiny amount of water, and administer it orally using a dropper bottle.

Can I use homeopathy during pregnancy?

Again, seeing as the remedies are completely non-toxic, homeopathy is one of the safest (as well as one of the most effective) treatments to use for healthcare during pregnancy, as there will be no harmful side effects for the mother or the baby.

Can homeopathy treat acute illness as well?

In the case of more accute illnesses, such as an injury, or a cough or cold, the remedies would be prescribed at a lower, more physical potency, and taken on a more regular basis. It is a good idea for every family to have a remedy kit (a set of around 20 different remedies, available from Helios or Ainsworth's homeopathic pharmacies), which contains a booklet to help decide which remedy would be suitable for the presenting symptoms. This is actually a great way to learn more about homeopathy, and start taking charge of your own, and your family's, health.

What should I do in an emergency when I am unable to contact you?

In this case, the best thing to do would be to call the homeopathic helpline (open until midnight most nights of the week) on 09065 343404, although it should be noted that calls to this number are £1.50 per minute. Otherwise contact your GP, or in a serious emergency, go straight to your nearest hospital.
